Meet Anaya

Who Am I?

I was born and raised in Madison, WI by a single mom along with 3 of my siblings. We had two cats and a diverse community ranging from Hmong and Syrian refugees to educators and nurses. From second to 12th grade I was in the PEOPLE Program and it has helped me develop my academic and social skills.

My favorite hobbies include:

  • Reading

  • Crocheting

  • Video and Board Games

  • Annoying friends and family

  • Napping

  • Learning about the world

  • Piercings and Tattos

I'm an undergrad at UWO, Class of 2020. I will be graduating with a double major in Anthropology and French, as well as Cerficates in Indigenous Studies and Global Scholarship. I want to continue my studies and get my masters, but I'm not sure what in yet, so who knows when that'll happen. I want to work in non-profits that cater to low income communities to help them via educations programs and job training. I see this as a sort of 'giving back' since I wouldn't be where I am, or who I am, today without such programs in my community.

Professional History

TAP Peer Leader/Mentor

I worked with the Academic Support of Inclusive Excellence to encourage students to build connections to campus, to use campus resources, and maintain good grades. Along with the Coordinators of the program and two other Peer Leaders, we planned events for all the TAP students, reminded students of important campus deadlines, and had weekly meetings to keep up to date with all the students.

Operations Team

The Operations Team within Reeve Memorial Union worked to set up for all the events being done in the building. We worked with the coordinators of event programs to make sure that everybody in attendance was guaranteed to enjoy the event. Along with that, we helped clean and maintain Blackhawk Commons, the campus cafeteria, by cleaning the area and rearranging it for special events and for new furniture.

In the future, I would like to work with non-profits or community based organizations. I would like to ba part of child development via education via pre-college programs and in school tutoring and other academic aid. This has been the goal since I began my college career, and with my graduation coming up, I can realize that dream soon!
